초급 학생교재 Basic Essential CLIL -물리, 화학, 지구과학, 천문학, 생물, 사회, 지리
학과목과 영어를 통합하여 영어를 모국어처럼 익히는 학습방법인 CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning)이 유럽의 외국어 교육에선 대세로 자리 잡고 있다. 하지만 우리의 경우 대부분의 영어교재가 미국 교과서라서 어휘와 문장 난이도가 불규칙하고, 아직 가치관이 형성되지 않은 우리나라 어린이들에게 정서적 혼란을 불러일으킬 수 있다는 위험성이 있다.
이런 난제들을 Essential CLIL series가 총 18권으로 풀어 헤치며 새로운 교육 패러다임을 제시하고 있다.
Basic Essential CLIL 1권은
알파벳과 파닉스를 배운 학생이 드는 첫 영어책이다. 그런만큼 쉽게 단어중심으로 설명되어 있고, 내용 또한 자기자신과 일상생활, 학교생활을 다루고 있다. 외국어를 배울 때 자신의 일상에서 쓰는 단어와 지식중심으로 다가갈 때 그 효과가 배가된다. 뿐만 아니라 논리적으로 분류하고 생각하게 만드는 콘텐츠란 장점 또한 크다. 이 교재는 다양한 공부법이 큰 장점이다. 예를 들어 “Look” 섹션에서 인체에 대해 배우게 되면 “Look and do” 섹션에서 자신의 발 크기와 엄마의 발 크기를 직접 재보아 크기를 비교한다든지, 요일과 날짜에 대해 배운다면 그려진 차트에 날짜들을 색칠하여 공부를 하며 달력을 만드는 등 단순한 정보 습득을 뛰어넘어 다양한 활동을 통해 효과적으로 내용을 배울 수 있도록 구성되어. 오디오 파일은 학생들을 영어환경에 최대한 노출시키기에 최적화되어 있다.
